What Is It?

Ginger – a humble and common spice, with lots of unknown goodness!

Enjoyed in cuisines around the world for its warm, spicy aroma and flavor, ginger is also revered as a healing gift from God for thousands of years in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic Indian systems. Traditional Chinese medicine states that ginger “restores devastated yang” and “expels cold”, and an old Indian proverb says that “everything good is found in ginger.” Throughout history, ginger is recognized for its medicinal value as an immune booster to treat colds/flu/coughs, and a digestive aid to ease gastrointestinal distress like bloating, stomach upset, constipation, etc.

Modern scientific research also suggests that ginger has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can help lessen arthritis pain, and that it provides effective relief for nausea and vomiting in cases of pregnancy, motion sickness, chemotherapy.

Botanical name : Zingiber officinale

Organic certifications: USDA, EU, JAS

Nature’s Superfoods brings you certified organic, raw golden ginger powder from the Amazon rainforest of Peru. Peruvian golden ginger has been growing in popularity in countries such as the USA and Europe, and due to its excellent flavor profile - bold, intense and delightfully spicy – Peruvian ginger is considered as of premium quality.

Now available in 100g resealable pouches.

How to Use

Peruvian Ginger is bold and intense in flavor. By adding ginger to your recipes, you are adding a powerful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory benefits to your diet. Due to the high quality of Peruvian Ginger, a little goes a long way to elevate your recipes to the next level.

For delicious, warming & relaxing GINGER TEA (good for sore throat, dry cough and to relieve cold symptoms) :

In a cup of boiled water, add ½ teaspoon (about 1 g) ginger powder. Cover the cup and allow the tea to cool 10-15 minutes before consumption. Sweeten with 1 teaspoon of Nature’s Superfoods Raw Honey if desired. Lemon goes well with this. Enjoy!

Recommended daily serving : 1g – 4g (max) a day.

The best time to consume ginger is in the morning. Avoid taking ginger at night. Never consume too much ginger (more than 1tsp or 2g) at one time.

Ginger should not be used if you have a bleeding disorder or take blood-thinning medications (aspirin, warfarin etc.). Ginger acts as a blood thinner, so curb use at least two weeks before surgery.

Ginger powder is safe to be consumed by pregnant women, in moderate amounts.

For cooking recipes: Use ¼ teaspoon of ginger powder for each tablespoon of fresh grated ginger as a substitute. If the recipe calls for 1 tablespoon of minced fresh ginger, use ½ teaspoon of ginger powder.

Ground ginger/ ginger powder is an essential spice for gingerbread and is also good in biscuits, preserves, chutneys, marmalades and a variety of desserts. Try it in pickles and with pork, chicken and beef. Add it to pumpkin or apple pie, cookies, carrot and sweet potatoes dishes.

Nutrition Info

The main active compounds in ginger responsible for its flavor, odor, and healing properties are gingerol and shagaol. Both are known to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions. These active compounds help to neutralize stomach acids, enhance the secretion of digestive juices, and tone the muscles of the digestive tract. Gingerols and shogaols also exhibit cancer-preventive activity in experimental carcinogenesis (tumor development).

Ginger also contains a beneficial protein digestive enzyme namely zingibain, which is particularly effective in preventing gas and bloating caused by protein-rich foods such as beans and legumes.
