Product Description

Nature’s Superfoods’ Organic Raw Cacao Nibs (pronounced ‘Ka-CAW’) come from organic unroasted cacao beans of the premium variety, Criollo, which is known for its fine flavor & aroma with low acidity. These nibs are actually raw cacao beans that have been dried, peeled and crushed into cacao bits (nibs). The raw cacao beans are lightly fermented naturally before sun-drying to bring out the cocoa flavor, increase nutrient availability and reduce phytic acid content. Unlike roasted cocoa nibs, raw cacao nibs are minimally processed and contain higher levels of antioxidants, magnesium, iron, and potassium.

Nutrition

Organic raw cacao is one of the highest plant-based sources of magnesium, a commonly deficient mineral in modern society. Magnesium is vital for many bodily functions and magnesium deficiency can lead to higher risks of health problems such as heart attack, stroke, diabetes or osteoporosis. Raw Cacao also stands out as a nutritional powerhouse that is packed with flavonoids, polyphenols, sulfur, minerals, and vitamins. Its high levels of flavonoid antioxidants and magnesium content offer significant cardiovascular benefits, helping with regulating blood pressure and reducing inflammation.

Additionally, Raw Cacao is beneficial for long term mental health as it boasts abundant "bliss nutrients" such as PEA and anandamide, which elevate mood akin to feelings of love and post-exercise endorphin release. Moreover, Raw Cacao contains tryptophan and serotonin, further enhancing mood and acting as a natural antidepressant.

Raw Cacao is also rich in iron ! Considering iron deficiency (anemia) is common in women of reproductive age, pregnant women as well as children with anemia, cacao can be an easy way to improve their iron intake.

Story of Raw Cacao

The tradition of cacao as the "food of the gods" dates back to ancient Mesoamerican civilizations such as the Maya and the Aztecs, where cacao was revered not only for its rich flavor but also for its perceived divine qualities including health benefits. It was consumed in the form of a frothy, bitter drink made from ground cacao beans mixed with water, spices, and sometimes chili peppers. This ceremonial beverage played a central role in religious rituals, social gatherings, and even medicinal practices, symbolizing fertility, vitality, rebalancing of energies in the body, healing, and spiritual connection.
